OZwRCIN project: Towards open science

The aim of the Project is to increase the RCIN (Digital Repository of Scientific Institutes) digital collection (in total by 146 107 items), accessibility and use of Public Sector Information made available through open licenses, from the scientific resources gathered by our Project Partners and to adapt our services to the needs of users, including those with disabilities. This will be conducted with the use of the existing ICT infrastructure (including the PIONIER Network provided to the Project Partners free of charge) and  the RCIN platform (rcin.org.pl). Most of our partners gained experience under the EU’s Innovative Economy Operational Programme.
Currently the RCIN platform includes 66 thousand publications, which during the seven years since the platform was established have been accessed by41 million users.

The current activities will include improved adaptation of the platform’s functionality to the needs of its users and providing online access to scientific resources of 6 new institutions via the platform. In particular, new items will be made available on the Internet, containing scientific content and data, including a complete set of metadata, that have previously been available only to few researchers visiting the partners' premises. These items are representative for our partner institutions’ scientific field and will contribute to future development of research. The RCIN IT system will also be modernized, taking into account the recognized needs of the users.

The Project’s Beneficiary (Leading Partner) is the Institute of Mathematics, Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) and 15 other scientific institutions being Project Partners: Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology PAS, Institute of Literary Research PAS, Systems Research Institute PAS, Forest Research Institute, Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS, W. Szafer Institute of Botany PAS, Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS, Institute of Dendrology PAS, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology PAS, Stanisław Leszczycki Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization PAS, Mossakowski Medical Research Centre PAS, Institute of Nature Conservation PAS, Institute of Fundamental Technological Research PAS, Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals PAS, Museum and Institute of Zoology PAS.

After the completion of the project, the resources of 23 institutes (17 current users and 6 new OZwRCIN Project Partners) will be available via the RCIN platform.
