The project is focused on the investigation of the effect of global climate change on the current and past environmental changes and related to the risk from natural hazards for the area of Northern Mongolia. Our preliminary research shows that there are significant environmental changes in Northern Mongolia, which are connected with recent climate change and extreme natural phenomena, significant changes in precipitation and fire regime, permafrost disappearances, loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services, land use change. We will focus on exploring present responses to the Northern Mongolia ecosystems for current climate change to use this knowledge to better understand the past.
