The project “Integrated Environmental Impact Assessment of Agricultural Land Management and RD Agri-Env Measures in a Region in Poland” was conducted at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IGSO) under the contract number 381534FISC between IGSO and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC), Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES), Ispra, Italy. The leading person from the Polish side was Jerzy SOLON and from the JRC side - Michael CHERLET.

The general purposes of the project were:

  • to identify, assess and map the actual impact of agricultural land management on the environment;
  • to analyse spatio-temporal changes of the environment in the function of agriculture and to establish their cause-effect relations;
  • to develop indicators for the assessment of environmental impacts due to agricultural land management.

The work on the project was divided into two Tasks:
Task 1 - Analysis for identification of environmental stresses and impact
Task 2 - Definition of impact assessment indicators

The report here presented is composed of four parts. In the first part the selected region of Poland, being the object of analysis, is presented in general terms, the data sources are characterised and the contents of the final database is described. The second part encompasses the presentation of the methods and the analytic tools applied, as well as the theoretical background for elaborating indicators. The third part is devoted to the presentation of the set of proposed indicators, along with their explanation. The fourth part contains the discussion of the results obtained and the recommendations concerning their application and the directions of modification of the input data set. Additional information dealing with the above subjects is presented in Annexes.
