Stanisław Leszczycki Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization Polish Academy of Sciences (IGSO PAS) was founded in 1953 (initially as the Institute of Geography PAS). The Institute is an important research centre in Poland in the fields of socio-economic geography, physical geography as well as spatial organization. Within the framework of the Institute, the Central Library of Geography and Environmental Protection is operating, this being one of the largest library centres of the kind in the world. (more...)

New book edited by Professor Jerzy Bański

We are pleased to announce that another book edited by Professor Jerzy Bański, an employee of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization Polish Academy of Sciences, has just been published. The book covers a wide range of issues related to the processes of peripheralisation and peripheral areas and is a collection of 22 studies prepared by 50 authors representing various scientific disciplines (economists, geographers, sociologists, urban planners) and regions of the world. The publication was released by Edward Edgar Publishing.

DUT CONIFER project: Co-Imagining 15-minute cities

We're thrilled to announce the official kick-off of the CONIFER project at the Mobilise group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VU). This initiative brings together experts and stakeholders to envision and develop '15-minute cities'—urban spaces where essential services are accessible within a short walk or bike ride. By promoting sustainable and efficient urban planning, CONIFER aims to enhance the quality of life in our community. IGSO PAS is one of 11 full partners joining in the project from seven European countries.
