Within the task, it is envisaged to carry out research works associated with a diagnosis of the contemporary socio-economic situation in Polish rural areas and with prognostication of changes in varied time perspectives. Particular regard will be given to evaluation of possible transformations of rural areas that may occur by the year 2050 perspective. That aim will be accompanied by works conducted under the project NCN – Scenarios for development and visions of Polish rural space in the long-term perspective.

In 2012, in addition to elaborating up-to-date indicators of socio-economic development, a new database is predicted to be developed on the basis of nation-wide 2010 Agricultural Census. Evaluation documents, which concern financial support provided to rural areas on a regional basis (the so-called EU funds), will be subjected to comprehensive analysis. Simultaneously, theoretical bases for creation of visions and alternative scenarios of development of Polish countryside space will be presented.

It is expected that in 2012 the final result of studies will be: a completed database containing the processed up-to-date statistical data, diagnostic analysis concerning the state of development of Polish countryside after the year 2010, as well as theoretical and methodological visions for development of rural space combined with presentation of alternative possible scenarios.
