Stanisław Leszczycki Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization Polish Academy of Sciences (IGSO PAS) was founded in 1953 (initially as the Institute of Geography PAS). The Institute is an important research centre in Poland in the fields of socio-economic geography, physical geography as well as spatial organization. Within the framework of the Institute, the Central Library of Geography and Environmental Protection is operating, this being one of the largest library centres of the kind in the world. (more...)

On 22 January (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. in the seminar room on the ground floor of the Institute, PhD Inta Dimante-Deimantovica from Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology will have a presentation titled: Is microplastic the proxy of the Anthropocene and what it has to do with Cladocera subfossils?
Elsevier has published a scientific monograph of the team of authors under the direction of Dr. Andrzej Affek entitled Ecosystem Service Potentials and Their Indicators in Postglacial Landscapes: Assessment and Mapping. The book combines elements of the academic textbook (presenting in a concise form the current state of knowledge in the field of ecosystem services) with a transdisciplinary methodical and application study on the assessment of the potential of nature on a regional scale and its value for people.
Dr. Andrzej Affek, assistant professor at IGiPZ PAN, won the competition of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for scholarships for outstanding young scientists. Three-year scholarships are awarded to young scientists who conduct high-quality research and enjoy impressive scientific achievements.
We would like to proudly communicate that the venue and organisers of the next IALE European Landscape Ecology Congress have been recently officially announced during the 10th IALE World Congress in Milan. The IALE 2021 European Landscape Ecology Congress will take place in Warsaw, Poland, and will be co-organised by the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization, Polish Academy of Sciences.
